While I support the Library, the truth is, copies of its books are much less expensive on Amazon.Reinhold Niebuhr is one of the great thinkers on religion and politics of the 20th century. Most people know the serenity prayer, recited at all AA and Al-Anon meetings as well as at other 12-step based meetings and programs. Few know that it was written by Reinhold Niebuhr. This book is a collection of some of his most important works, gathered in one volume, printed on acid free paper and bound in a very high quality manner. This book is meant to last.Included here are some of his major writings on both religion and politics, such as:Leaves from the Notebook of a Tamed CynicMoral Man and Immoral Society (a work whose relevance increases as we move into the 21st century)The Children of Light and the Children of DarknessThe Irony of American HistoryOther writings are included, such as essays on the current events of his time, from 1928 to 1967), many of the prayers he composed and some of the sermons and lectures he gave on Faith and Belief. When A Moral Center meets the Real World - How can it Survive?Like many, I read this off of John Blake's interview with Obama, which revealed Niebuhr as Obama's favorite philosopher / thought leader.Basically Niebuhr asks the question repeatedly : How does one retain one's moral center when facing the realities of leadership in this world?IE how do you retain your morality when facing an election, that requires you to play dirty to win? In Niehbur's case, how do you retain your religious ideals, when in a world of competition - you compete against others for leadership within a church, and your church competes with others for followers. How do you do this?Well, the answer is not easy, and Niebuhr spent a lifetime wrestling with it. Obama, love him or hate him, found a way to push his leadership forward while retaining a moral center. You can argue with this of course haha, but you get my idea.Regardless, I highly recommend this for leaders, those interested in morality, those interested in making a better world, and just about anyone else.
The theologian, Reinhold Neibuhr's thesis is that we must examine governments and philosophies about governments from a Christian perspective. That means human nature is sinful and prone to optimism in the case of communism with its belief in utopia, or with capitalism with its belief that human nature is rational and will act in its best interest. Human nature tends toward pride which keeps us from seeing reality as it really is.Neibuhr's analysis is also that who have power will not give it up willingly. Humans are infinitely capable of justifying their position over the needs and desires of those who do not hold power. That is true between whites and blacks, men and women, great nations and small.Racism is innate in all humans, no matter what their race.Since Neibuhr's insights comes from the era in which he lived as an adult--1914 to the 1960s, his perspectives on the events of that era are dated for those of us living in the second decade of the 21st century.As theologians go, his writing is very readable. Even though the events that he comments on are now "ancient" history his insights about human nature are up-to-date

Great book and much easier to read that one would expect from a thinker as deep as Niebuhr.
Reinhold Niebuhr has read widely in Theology and Philosophy. He is able therefore to write authoritatively on these subjects. His views on the Christian's responsibility toward society are still relevant today.

I think the drawings could have been much better in detail and far less children's coloring book style. I expected a far more finer lined drawing than what is in this book. I thought that they would be more of the quality, once colored in, to be suitable for framing which was going to be my intent.So that was a disappointment for me. Other books printed by this manufacturer are indeed farmable in quality and that was what I was expecting. My fault I realize now.
This Dover book is a real disappointment, and I usually like their designs. This book is not only printed on both sides (which I knew), but it has such crappy paper that even colored pencils show a shadow and press through to the other side, ruining the back. So you better either buy TWO books or forfeit one side and just color your favorite of the two sides of each page, BOO!
I really like the patterns, but they are printed on both sides of the page. So I can't use Sharpies at all and even find that gel pens tend toshow through the thin pages--but they don't bleed through. I would not get it again. I am usually careful to make sure the designs are printed on only one side of the sheets. Let this one slip through
The pages have pictures on both sides, so if you color with markers it bleeds through to the pictures on the other side. Cheap paper. Pictures ok

I did not like this book it was not what we thought it was we thought it was more of the Indian culture and it wasn't without at the pictures would have been better
beautiful coloring book. I love the different designs offered. The only problem with it is that the pics are printed on both sides so you can't usemarkers at all.
I new at this coloring but it is a lot of fun, the book of designs are beautiful. The price is very reasonable. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to relax.

About the Author
Sabeeha Rehman was born and raised in Pakistan. She came to the United States in 1971 after a hurried arranged marriage to a Pakistani doctor in New York. With a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics, she settled into the life of a homemaker. Once both her sons were enrolled full-time in school, she went back to college to get her masters in healthcare administration and began her twenty-five-year career as a hospital executive. Her career spanned hospitals in New York, New Jersey, and Saudi Arabia. Raising children Muslim in the absence of a Muslim community was a daunting challenge. In the early 1980s, she and her husband began the work of establishing a Muslim community on Staten Island, where they were living at the time. Their efforts culminated in the building of a mosque. Ms. Rehman has spent the last several decades in engaging in interfaith dialogue with faith communities. She served as the director of interfaith programs at the American Society for Muslim Advancement and as the chief operating officer at the Cordoba Initiative, a multifaith organization dedicated to building bridges between Muslims and the West. She is active on the interfaith circuit, raising awareness of Islam, and Muslims in America. When her grandson was diagnosed with autism, she left her career and cofounded the New York Metro Chapter of the National Autism Association, and served as its first president. Her memoir, Threading My Prayer Rug, received Honorable Mention in Spirituality in the San Francisco Book Festival Awards of 2017. It was listed as a Top 10 Religion and Spirituality Book of 2016 and a Top 10 Diverse Nonfiction Books of 2017 by Booklist. I wish Sabeeha Rehman was my friend. She seems like such a wonderful, inspiring woman, who never takes no for an answer and never fails to challenge the status quo, either in the society or in her own understanding of the world. This will to change, to evolve, and cause ripples around her, are essential parts of a feminist icon, and I'm very happy to have learned of one who lives in New York and is like me a foreigner from a different culture. It was also priceless to put a face to a powerhouse of revisionist Islam. And I think what I admire most in the way Sabeeha sees the world is the way that she can always spot the gray areas, both in her own conduct, in her religion, or the world overall, and she calls them out for what they are. And when she doesn't, well, I'm pretty sure she will one day :)My only problem with the book was that Sabeeha doesn't ever acknowledge the class component of the Islamic society at large and in Pakistan in particular, which in my opinion is a huge deal. Sabeeha and most people in the narrative are people who come from privilege. While it still renders them foreigners and migrants in the American context, they are nonetheless more open to change, evolution and assimilation than those who have less means to pursue education or repatriation. But I was peeved when Sabeeha completely glossed over the existence of domestic help or poverty in her homeland. What is Islam in Pakistan through the eyes of the family's servants? How does Sabeeha's view of them change as she continues living in the US? And what happens when her parents die, do the servants go back to the slums, or do they have families? How does Islam play into this sort of existence? I mean, yes, ok, I understand that Sabeeha's memoir can not account for all sorts of experiences in Pakistan and/or Islam, and it's a memoir, not a critical theory piece. But the way she circles these things, creates holes in her narrative, and the picture of middle class Islam that Sabeeha herself represents, while idyllic and evolved, starts to seem purposefully crafted.By no means am I implying that radicalization only happens within lower classes. No, it seems that the major players in terrorist organizations are usually people from privileged backgrounds, just like Sabeeha, but less kind and well meaning, empathic. But the cannon fodder is often the underprivileged, and we can't have an inclusive talk about the future of Islam in the world without talking about them.That said, I also understand that this book is more about being a muslim woman in the pre- and post-9/11 East Coast, and Sabeeha is the finest example of courage and compassion in those unfortunate circumstances.

Sabeeha Rehman’s book “Threading My Prayer Rug “ I received my copy and I was curious to know about her journey. As an immigrant we all have an experience of coming to America from somewhere on the globe with our culture and local traditions and then we all are somehow shaped up to become American. That’s the beauty of American culture that it absorbs you and molds you in such a way that you keep your cultural diversity with all American values of liberty justice and equality. It is struggle and it is test of your ability to deal and succeed in your professional life and cultural diversity. I am amazed how Ms Rehman was able to narrate her journey with such an eloquence that the stories have not lost a bit of its flavor. . We immigrants from similar back ground can really relate to it. Beauty of the book is that she was able to narrate her story in such a beautiful way to make it easy for readers to understand describing events in cleverly simple way with engaging and charming style of writing that a person who has no background of that culture can enjoy the story with benefits learning something new . She really was able to redesign and re-thread her rug in to red white and blue . It’s a delightful read of Journey of integration, assimilation of cultures faith and aspirations along with dreams to arrive at a destination called American and Sabeeha Rehman exactly knew how to connect with readers and keeps them engaged on this incredible journey
Rehman did a good job revealing her struggle to maintain her sense of self, family, culture, religion while acquiring an American way of life. She tells of support from the Jewish community and Muslims from countries other than Pakistan. Her intellectual seeking to understand Islam as a religion vs. a cultural interpretation is enlightening--she came to that as a parent wanting to guide her sons since her family in Pakistan had been more secular. All in all I gained a greater appreciation of Islam and its practice in America. I admired Rehman's intellectual and multi-cultural growth throughout her adulthood. I also think she had an amazing partner in her arranged marriage husband.

I've always been fascinated with philosophy. Anything with the various types of philosophy and famous philosophers has garnered my attention. Stoicism is an area of philosophy that many readers may not know about. But this book gives a detailed explanation on everything revolving around stoicism. Through easy, detailed paragraphs, the authors breaks down the study of stoicism how it applies to our life, and the history of the subject and how ancient philosophers studied it. The book does give an excellent concise definition and explanation. Overall, I think this is a great purchase as an overview into a philosophy that is worth as much consideration today as it did in the midst of the forum’s of old.
