I usually don’t write reviews, but had to do it because I want to save some readers some hours of their lives. I really like the author but this was a miss for me. Why you may ask? Well, I usually like to have the main characters interesting with some depth even if they are not the nicest people at first. Or even not. I’ve read books where the characters really never redeem themselves completely but I still found them compelling. Not so with Gamel and Sine. Gamel was just so poorly written. And it shocks me to read such positive reviews. The guy was simply put a stalker, schemer and then acted like a whiney jealous little boy. His bouts of jealousy were not even sexy. They were childish. And the female lead, Sine, was not much better. I mean, really, you spend six years trying to get away from your evil Mother and then just immediately give into your stalker???? I was so confused. To be honest I couldn’t even finish the book so my review is just for the first half. I couldn’t take it anymore and this is after picking it up and reading it several times. The only interesting character is Farthing, who took care of her initially. But even his character could not hold me to finish this. Don’t waste your time. She’s written much better.

Sine didn't need anyone to deter her from her quest, especially not the young knight Gamel Logan who stirs a passion in her she has never felt before.The violet eye beauty mesmerized Gamel. He didn't care that she belonged to another; he knew he had to have her and once he possessed her he was never letting her go.Silver Flame is a fantastic novel. Sine Catrione is a heroine for the ages, a strong young girl who grew into a strong young woman who was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She lived her life to make sure her brothers lived, and she would sacrifice anything for them and those she loved. Gamel was awestruck by her beauty and her flowing silver hair that cascaded down to her knees but when he was giving a taste of her passion he was in love.I enjoyed every aspect of this story. The romance between Gamel and Sine was pure and beautiful even though he tricked her into his bed, the passion they shared for one another was in earnest. I also loved Farthing, he took Sine and her young brothers in and cared for them as his family. I especially loved how he goaded Gamel and played on Gamel's jealousy of the relationship that Sine Catrione and Farthing shared. I don't know if Hannah Howell has written a book about Farthing but I'm sure it would one hell of a story if she did. This is my first book by this Ms. Howell and it will not be my last, I'm already searching her website for others. Silver Flame is a terrific historical romance, I enjoyed it immensely and I most definitely Joyfully Recommend Silver Flame.Leyreviewed for Joyfully Reviewed
I never would of bought this book if I had realized the author was Hannah Howell. I had read her "Beauty & The Beast and I had hated it. But as much as I did not like that book, is how much I liked "Silver Flame". This does not mean that I liked everything about the story, (my preference is for the hero to be top dog, among other things) but for me, a hero who is not afraid of commitment, and was the one who had to work hard for the relationship, makes me overlook, (almost) everything else. Besides I did enjoy the story, the plot was entrataining, the heroine was great: beautiful, caring and resourceful, yet achingly naive and vulnerable. The hero was even better: strong yet instantly smitten and determined to have the heroine not matter what. And the fact he wanted marriage instead of the usual handfasting, most romance authors love to write about, was a wonderful plus for me. I also found his jeaulosy endearing.
This book breaks the mold for castle romance. The characters are unique and not at all stock. The surprises and frustrations keep a reader hooked. I liked that one of the "good" guys was really a rogue and their but exhibited some pretty impressive honor. Though it's about love of course, the book explores many facet of the feeling: love of home, love of family, love of self, and love like a parent's, The main character Sine Catroina's unusual looks serves a plot purpose or clue, it is also helpful in visualizing the character. Howell does a great job with one of the mainstays of romance, the confusion or lack of information. Clueless is so cute.
I gave this book a four star rating because it had all the elements of a good historical read. It lacked an epilogue but I would recommend this book to all romantic's.
I read this story years ago in paperback and the story stuck with me enough that I had to search it out years later to repurchase on my kindle. The story line is engaging and the characters funny and unique. I would love to find out what happened to some of the side charcters after this story ended.
The story was another great read from Hannah. The story kept me reading and guessing throughout. I have read several of Hannah's other books and the style of her writing keeps me entertained and intrigued. She is an author that I would definitely look for new titles from.
Great book would love to see a book for Martin and a book for Farthering if there isn't one that I haven't seen. Would love to read a book on those two.
