I'm sad to say that I've finished this newest book in Gibbs's funjungle series. I'm hoping there will be more because I've enjoyed them so much. In this one, Li Ping, the panda coming to funjungle disappears from the truck that's bringing her to the park. While Teddy is curious, he is more than willing to let the FBI handle the case. But when someone blackmails him into investigating, Teddy quickly realizes that the FBI is focusing on the wrong things. And when a man dressed as a panda threatens him, Teddy becomes even more convinced that the FBI needs to change their focus. But the FBI is unwilling to listen to a 13-year-old, so with the help of his girlfriend, Summer, Teddy is forced to try to find the guilty party on his own. Once again, Gibbs has created a fun mystery with plenty of twists and turns and lots of adventure. And while everyone focuses on Li Ping's disappearance, Teddy also has another mystery on his hands: why the dolphins have started pantsing people, including himself. This is a delightful mystery series that middle grade readers are bound to enjoy.
Panda-Monium, the 4th mystery in Stuart Gibbs' FunJungle series, tops them all! Teddy Fitzroy is back, this time with a girlfriend, in another hilarious and complex plot. FunJungle is eagerly awaiting the arrival of Li Ping, a panda on loan from China. Imagine their horror when the carefully designed truck arrives and Li Ping has disappeared! This time, Teddy is relieved to take a back seat to the FBI investigation. Or so he hopes.Teddy's nemesis, Marge O'Malley (the security officer who has been forever accusing him of every mishap at FunJungle), blackmails him into searching for solutions. Marge is desperate to show up her pompous and condescending sister, FBI agent Molly O'Malley. What are the odds that these two would end up at the same crime scene? Teddy has faced black mambas, tigers, and sharks in previous FunJungle books, but Panda-Monium takes danger to a whole new level. And the catastrophes are truly uproarious. Although written for middle schoolers and above, I was also laughing wildly at Teddy's adventures with dolphins and polar bears.  Stuart Gibbs continues to weave in other topics of interest to his readers, including bullying, friendships, and school cultures. All of these are painted with the same outrageous humor but keep the book grounded in relevant topics. Teddy is at his most determined, insightful, and clever, but I'll leave you to enjoy the unveiling of the villains. I will say that one of my favorite scenes was Marge driving a golf cart wildly through FunJungle, with poor Teddy and Summer hanging on for dear life. Or maybe it was the polar bear disaster, which reveals a better side of Marge while still reminding us that she is clueless. Panda-Monium has "perfect-for-a-movie" written all over it. I hope you enjoy it! Â
My 10-year old daughter, 13 year-old son, and I have been reading Stuart Gibbs for years. In the beginning, I read the books to them. Now we read them on our own, me included! He is a fantastic author... There's no other kid's author that we can find who writes with the same delightful style. His plots are creative, exciting, often hilarious, and perfectly paced. Gibbs creates relatable, intelligent characters who inspire kids to think on their own as well as do the right thing--without being preachy or lofty about it.While we've loved all of his books, I have to say Panda-monium is truly fantastic. (My daughter and I cried we were laughing so hard during the first scene of the book!) Full of adventure, excitement, mystery, and laughs, Panda-monium is the the best Fun Jungle book yet!! I only wish Gibbs could write books as quickly as we can read them as two a year just isn't enough!
It is lucky that Gibs releases a book around my son's birthday each year. He expectantly awaits them even though he is now 12 and has mostly outgrown them.
Stuart Gibbs is my son's favorite author. He loves all of his books and cannot put them down until he finishes them.
All of Stuart Gibbs books are fantastic! They are clever, have great vocabulary for my children (even me sometimes) and my 10 year old boy/ girl twins LOVE all his books and audio books!!!! We have already pre-ordered his new books coming out later in the year. My children now are interested other "extinct" animals and knowing so much more!
I've had so much fun reading this book to my daughter. We first started off with this book because we love pandas, and now our next book is belly up and so forth.
We love the Funjungle series of Stuart Gibbs! My kids have loved his books for a few years now...they are currently 10 & 11. Would highly recommend!!
