About the Author

Ptolemy Tompkins is a former editor at Guideposts Magazine and the author of seven books. His writing has been featured in Beliefnet, Harper’s, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The Best Spiritual Writing, and The Best American Spiritual Writing.Tyler Beddoes was born in Provo, Utah. He studied Criminal Justice and Journalism at Utah Valley University. He joined the Police Department in Spanish Fork, Utah in 2006. While a member of the Police Department he has been awarded an exemplary service award. He was also recognized by the Mayor of Spanish Fork and the United States Congress for his involvement in the miraculous rescue of Lily Groesbeck from the Spanish Fork River on the morning of March 7, 2015. Brilliant book by a fabulous writer! Tompkins is so talented. He understands human nature and the spiritual world and is able to integrate the two in such a compelling fashion. All of Tompkins work is excellent and this book is no exception. Yes it is about Angels, but about so much more. So many books in this vain fall short by the quality of writing. With Tompkins the writing, the depth of thought, the scope of thought and the sensitivity in dealing with human tragedy and spiritual experience is unmatched. Touche Mr. Tompkins.

While there are quite a few graphic and sad details in this book one must remember that it is the story of a police officer and his companions who deal with graphic and sad situations on a continual basis. That these hardened and stoic officers can also feel the comfort and peace from the presence of Angles is beautiful. My daughter was a personal friend to the victim this book focuses on and this book brings some peace and understanding from a truly tragic event. Gives one hope by reading it, especially if the reader is suffering a personal tragedy, illness or other situations out of their earthly control.

This book made my heart break for some of the events that Tyler had to deal with. I am from Spanish Fork and I had no idea that things like that happened around here! There is so much evil and bad that happens in the world today. But I think that if we will pay more attention to our inner self, we will realize that we too have a guardian angel that is willing to help us whenever we need them....if we are listening. I am grateful that Tyler shared his experiences in this book with anyone who will read it.

I purchased this book so that I could hopefully find a little more peace and hope in my life. It was one of the most frustrating reads I have experienced. It drags. It's chock full of fluffy fillers. And the writing style of the author is horrible -- very difficult to follow. If I had actually gotten something out of the book, I could have coped with the writing style. This author really needs to learn how to write clear sentences that don't drag on and on. Or find a better editor. And worst of all, each time I picked up the book, I had to force myself to continue reading it. No joy there, as there is with an outstanding book. Potential buyers -- beware of this book! It's a stinker. I am sure there are other far better books on angels available, and I intend to find them.

I have read quite a few books lately on the subject of guardian angles and when I saw this 191 page soft cover book (Proof of angels by Ptolemy Tompkins and Tyler Beddoes: The definitive book on the reality of angels and the surprising role they play in each of our lives) on Amazon for a bargain price I decided to purchase it. As a retired police officer I was fascinated by the now famous and well published true story of a rescue of a baby (Lily Groesbeck) from a car accident from an overturned car in a Utah river. This covers that incident in detail as well as other cases showing how these strange guides from beyond have helped us and saved many lives. The eleven chapters cover the following topics: An occurrence on Spanish Fork Bridge, what are angels? An angel named James Taylor, describing the indescribable, the academy, a voice from somewhere else, a presence in the room, devils, where do we go? Proof? What it all means.This is a book that is both interesting and thought provoking concerning the subject of angels and the role they have played in so many lives.Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Wonderful book. I have read almost all of Ptolemy's books. They are very well researched and are so well written that you hate for it to end. Highly recommended.

I thought the author did an excellent job when it came to describing what happened to Tyler regarding Angels, but I was disappointed there were no more references to other contemporary examples of angelic interactions, than the historical accounts that go back to biblical times, that I found boring.

This book & author are definitely different from the books I normally read. It's not a book about angels; I think it's about our faith (or lack thereof). It seems, to me, to be about two separate miracles and the effects they had on those who witnessed them. In particular, what happened to one individual before and after one of the miracles. There is quite a bit of gore throughout which I had to skip; but because it was so well written I wanted to read the parts that I could. If the author hadn't included the gore I would have given this 5 stars.

I downloaded this book from Amazon while I was in Holland.It took me some time to read over 400 pages of names, intrigues, assassinations, princes, kingdoms and alliances that changed as quickly as today's Italian parlament.I researched quite a lot on wikipedia to get all the information to understand all the old dynasties so at the end the pages read where double the book.Written in an old-fashioned way where personal consideration and comments added flavour and spice to the history, I really enjoyed this book. Although I still got lost trying to remember all the names and their various correlation and to which small or big kingdom they belonged.I particularly savoured the last chapter or else as he calls it Supplementary Chapter where the historian summarises all of his personal views about the Dutch country and its people. And I have to say the truth I quite agree with him."They are, in their own degree, remarkably prosperous and comfortable; and they have the good sense to be content with their condition.They are liberal and progressive, and yet conservative;...and they are wisely indifferent to the affairs of others" Very true..what impressed me while in Holland is that they have no curtains and if they do have them they don't use them."Their nature seems to partake of the scenic traits of their country; its picturesque, solid serenity, its unemotional levels, its flavour of the antique: and yet beneath that composure we feel the strength and steadfastness which can say to the ocean, Thus far and no further, and can build their immaculate towns, and erect their peaceful windmills, and navigate their placid canals, and smoke their fragrant pipes on land which, by natural right, should be the bottom of the sea"Yes, as my Dutch friend said to me "Why complicate your existence, we are in Holland!"

This book gives a history of the Netherlands from before the time of Christ until 1900. The language is somewhat stilted - perhaps due to the time when it was written - and the story at times seems rushed. With so many names and battles cited it is often difficult to keep everything straight. Given the length of time covered in this single volume perhaps this is unavoidable. I really enjoyed the sections on William the Silent and the lengthy and courageous struggle the Dutch waged against Spain for their independence - it was a much, much longer and fiercer struggle than the American revolution. The author's admiration for William the Silent and his descendants as well as the people of the Netherlands shines through the entire narrative.I wish the author had said a little more about the culture of the nation. A book about the history of the Netherlands that doesn't even mention Rembrandt is missing something. Perhaps a little less could have been said about the battles in order to fit in a chapter about the art of the golden age of the Netherlands, which is one of the great glories of the Netherlands.The book only cost me $0.99 on my Kindle and I did enjoy it hence the 4 star rating.

Whoosh! I had not known that its history was so bloody. The various nations' greed in attempting to expand their borders, possessions and resources made for wars, intrigues and scheming too numerous to keep track of. I'm glad I didn't live in Europe during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. If I had, I probably wouldn't have lived long!This was a very thoroughly detailed history, probably unknown to most people today -- except for the Netherlanders, of course..

This was very much in-depth, more so than I had expected, and I was pleased that it did go into such detail. As with many histories, the writing was occasionally dry and events sometimes just slightly jumbled, but all in all I would recommend this for a first time read.

he's a boat nut. He loves it. They saw it at a store at a much higher price. The one I got is like new. Wife said he beamed when she gave it to him. The pictures are VERY nice. It is a well done book, unlike many others I've seen.

A lot of history is covered in varying amounts of detail. Not as coherent a narrative as I had expected. It does a pretty good job of describing what a bright, industrious group of people the Dutch really are. Having been there a few times,I have always been impressed with their many hydraulic capabilities and more nobly how they honor the and open and accepting culture that elevates the Dutch to just a few of the great countries in the world.

Being of Dutch ancestors I was looking for a history of Holland. I found it in the writing. This historical tale goes all the way back to the origins of Europe and ends with what we now know as Holland. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in European history.

Lee Morgan, 39, is the owner of the 600 acre Busted Thumb Horse Farm in west Texas, not far from the town of Burnt Rock. This story takes place ten years after the War Between the States. In that day and age she was definitely a bit of an oddity. Women did not own ranches back then nor did they breed and train horses. Carlos, her ranch manager along with his wife Maria, have been with her for 11 years. They are also her family in Christ.Lee's Uncle Noah, who raised her from the age of 6, was the great, great grandson of Justin Morgan who invented the Morgen horse breed. Lee has 200 horses, 60 colts and fillies plus 13 stallions. She wants/needs horses that are fast, intelligent, very quick on their feet, got cow sense, endurance and heart. Hearing that the "Bronc Man" is in town for the July 4th celebrations Lee, along with Carlos, goes to watch him perform, riding an untrained stallion. Liking what they see, Lee hires Wade Stuart that same day, laying down the ground rules as she does:No whiskey or beer on her landNo lady visitorsNo gambling, cussing, or taking the Lord's name in vainHonesty a mustNo weapons allowed except when absolutely necessary.Lee shares with him about giving her life to the Lord and invites him to join her and some of the other ranch hands for prayer each evening. Wade declines that offer but agrees to her rules.In chapter 2 we are introduced to Marshall Ben Flood who is very skilled with his gun and Jonas Dwyer, an older, good friend of Lee's and owner of Dwyer Horses and Cattle, an 850 acre spread, 50 miles north of Burnt Rock. His wife, Margaret, is addicted to pain medications etc and also appears to have Alzheimers although no one knew what it was back then.Jonas comes down to Lee's to make a suggestion that they both show off their stock at the Harvest Days Festival as they both need a wider buying audience. He suggests that maybe they race their two best horses against each other in a long race. Lee asks for until the next morning to think about it as she is afraid of the gambling that might become involved. Next morning she lets Jonas know that she will do it. It will be her horse, Slick, against Jonas' horse, Pirate, on which ends up being a 20 mile run. Neither of them had any clue the trouble that would be coming due to this one decision.Lee decides that Wade is the best person to ride Slick on the day of the race so he starts working with him for 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. You'll have to read the book to find out BUT Lee immediately fires Wade.With all the unrest in town from gamblers coming in and betting on the big race and knowing that Slick's life could also be in danger, Lee agrees for her man to be armed and a 24 hour watch put on Slick. Backing down from the race is not an option at this stage as it would cause a riot and more trouble than was already there. Wade heads to the town's bar where hatred and alcohol now control him.What happens to Slick? Who rides him in the race? Who wins the race?I really enjoyed reading this book. It is the first in a series of four BUT does have a satisfactory ending unlike some series. Of course, if I want to read more of Lee's interesting life then I am going to have to read the other three :)

There were parts that were interesting, but I feel like this book never actually came together. There were sections that were described in intimate detail. For example, great lengths were taken to create a mysterious character with a violent streak and an ax to grind. Then in an instant he is dismissed from the story and never mentioned again. I suppose the payoff will be in one of the subsequent novels.Then the race, which again is described in some detail up until a half mile from the finish. Then she hurries up the horse and it's over. All of the villains are conveniently dealt with between scenes in a neat tidy package that sucks the drama and tension right out of the story. It's like the author missed the lesson in school where we were taught about the climax of the story.Additionally, the potentially blossoming relationship between the Lee and Ben is hard to believe. None of their conversations or actions denote any particular affection, there is no flirting, no stolen glances, nothing. I've had more romantic interaction with the cable company's automated phone system ("RE PRE SEN TA TIVE"). But somehow we're supposed to believe they're both fallen in love with each other (although neither has mentioned to the other).The concept is good and the writing is decent, it just felt unfinished and I don't expect to read the sequel.

This book is a page turner. heartwarming, twist, turns. good guys, bad guys...a Christian western with guns and prayer meetings. Lady horse rancher carves herself a niche in rough country, in a hard land, with harder men in it. A bronc buster with an unknown past enters the scene and is a natural with breaking and training horses..but he seems strange to her. The lady needs to sell some horses. She is crossbreeding Morgans to get the perfect western endurance horse. She and another rancher...and old friend of her uncle, who left her the ranch, decide to have a horse race between their best stallions, at the town's upcoming festival days. The Marshal of the town is a good friend and a Christian man who worries about what kind of thieves and gamblers the horse race will bring to his town. The word is out to the army posts and all ranchers within a 100 miles...then hell comes to the area and the town, with a back shooting murder mystery and underhanded deals are afoot...they all strap on their guns for good and evil...once a traitor is found among them.The town is almost overrun with crooks and gunslingers...the horse race will decide it all. The feared lightning strikes as the race is on.

Stallions at Burnt Rock captures a interesting mix of believable characters, set in the stark elements of western terrain. A compelling mix of action and drama makes this a fun, fast paced read. Centered around a much anticipated horse race which adds tension, author Paul Bagdon demonstrates a keen understanding of horses which is somewhat rare in today's population. Attracted to this book initially by its cover, which is admittedly excellent, the substance of the story rewarded this reader with a good jackpot. Clean morals, an eye to the Creator and a well woven yarn. Will try another of his soon.

This race will change all their lives.If you like westerns you'll enjoy this story. If you know horses, you'll enjoy it. Love a western with accurate horse-sense in it! But the relationships between the characters just doesn't spark a lot of emotion, except between Lee and her ranch foreman, Carlos. The genuine friendship and respect between them comes through beautifully.

I’ve been renting this book off and on throughout the year from the library and made understanding incredibly easy. I’m about a month away from starting school so i decided to buy It so i can mark up and keep tabs of pages i really need to focus on. I absolutely love this book. I had my dad look It over who has a CDL and he said this is a perfect book to help people understand and can very well get them to pass the test on this book alone. Definitely will recommend to anyone looking to get a CDL as well as any other tests they need help preparing for.

Super easy read I like how the text is not to small or big just perfect and spaced out so you font feel overwhelmed. Helped me passed my permit test big time. I still recommend you read your state cdl handbook as well because each state has different laws this book dont get specific it's more of a Federal law which all states have to follow the minimum. States like California which is a little stricker on things

It was a poor study nothing on the test was in that book for hazmat you will fail if you study this book it was not worth the money I was very disappoi Ted never again

I purchased this for my boyfriend while he was attempting to study for his CDL exam using the books the DMV gave him. He failed a few times and stated those books were too lengthy and had too many words to actually comprehend. Since reviewing with this book, he finds the reading "lighter" and was able to pass on his first try since using this book. He found the practice questions to be like the ones on the actual exam which also helped.

I love that there are a lot of questions and math problems to try. I love that there answer keys in each section. The answer keys help me have confident in my answers. Thos book also include video that I can look up to get more examples on problems that I need more clarification. I love how this study guide give advises on how to study and prepare for the exam!

The guide is arranged in short, definitive content areas that allow for reading then leaving and then returning and picking right back up. This is important given the nature of many people’s schedules and obligations. I haven’t taken this test yet, but I believe this material will prove quite valuable in reaching that goal.

No secrets in this book what so ever. I have my CDL and I bought the book for my boyfriend to study. However, it's full of useless information. You get more info out of the generic motor vehicle book.
